Independent of any subscription monitoring service, this device simply connects to a landline (or VoIP modem) and dials a set phone number when one of the emergency buttons is pressed.
The person being called is alerted to the need for help with a pre-recorded message.
The person being called can then set up a two-way intercom over the phone.

Main unit is mains powered with battery backup (2x AAA batteries not included).
The power switch has been taped into the "on" position simply to prevent it from ever being turned off. I haven't taken this off since it is likely necessary in most applications anyway.
This was used for an elderly family member living with me, for peace of mind when leaving the home, or even when at the other end of the house and out of earshot.
